What's Happening With the New Syllabus?

Beginning in 2026 Term 1, prelim Year 11 students sitting HSC maths will follow the new "2024" syllabus. It is referred to as the 2024 syllabus because that's the year it was announced (NOT because it was implemented then). In other words, if you are sitting the HSC in 2027 or onwards, you will follow the new syllabus!

Current Year 12 students will continue to follow the old "2017" syllabus for their exams in 2026.

How Maths Advanced Will be Affected Overall

In our opinion, although there are slight differences, the majority of changes are simply reshuffling of content, so the core foundation of Maths Advanced will not change - and minimal new theory will be added. However, understanding these changes is still important as it influences how students should revise and study each term.

We've read through the new syllabus and summarised our key findings regarding how it's changed from the old syllabus below:

Collapsible content

New Year 12 Topic - "Further Graph Transformations and Modelling"

Älthough it seems like a new topic, it's mainly just a reorganisation of content that was previously already in the old syllabus. This includes trigonometric graph modelling and transformations (previously Year 12 Trig), plus exponentials and Logarithmic functions modelling (previously Year 11)

Removal of Correlation and Linear Regression

Correlation and Linear regression has been removed from Year 12. Some aspects of data - namely the concepts of graphing, frequency, and cumulative frequency have been moved to Year 11

"Graph Transformations" Now in Year 11

Previously Year 12 content surrounding graph transformations for functions has now been moved to Year 11 under a new topic

Miscellaneous Changes

Discrete random variables, acceleration of a particle, logarithmic modelling and exponential growth have been moved into Year 12 from Year 11. Semicircles on the y - axis has been added as a new concept to Year 11

How Mathify Workbooks Will be Affected

To ensure students are fully prepared under the updated syllabus, we will be releasing a new syllabus edition of our Maths Advanced workbooks soon to keep everything aligned, clear, and exam-relevant.

Our workbooks under the old syllabus will still be available for purchase throughout the year, ensuring current HSC students won't miss out.

Our new Maths Advanced workbooks have been carefully updated in response to the revised syllabus to ensure the content, structure, and question styles reflect the latest NESA expectations as closely as possible. Just like our currently available workbooks though, where appropriate, we may sometimes explain or teach certain ideas in a slightly different way from how they are presented in the official document—because in our experience, the clearest pathway for students is not always the most technical one.

Every adjustment we make is intentional and designed to help students build stronger understanding, avoid common mistakes, and perform better under real exam conditions.
